Spam is aggressive advertising by means of mass mailing to electronic addresses. Because this mailing is very cheap, unfair advertisers have the opportunity to send their messages to hundreds of thousands and even millions of emails. Naturally, such emails are highly unwelcome. A person engaged in such kind of activity is called a spammer.
