On Monday, the Turkey-EU summit took place in Brussels. The summit participants discussed issues concerning migration from Syria and the Middle East and agreed on the migrant action plan. During the summit, the EU members said that they would also revive talks on Turkey's accession to the EU. European Council President Donald Tusk said that Turkey's accession process needs to be reenergized. European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker added that next round of talks concerning the issues will be held in the nearest future. The EU has also pledged visa-free travel for Turkish citizens in the Schengen zone by October 2016.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel believes that cooperation with Turkey can be rather fruitful. Moreover, it is very important for resolving the migration crisis. Besides, Angela Merkel supports the idea of Turkey’s EU membership. She also added that the talks will be renewed as soon as December. German Chancellor clarified at her briefing for journalists after the summit that the three billion will be released in the form of refugee projects.
Angela Merkel supposes that the plan agreed by the summit members tackles initial problems and its implementation is a common goal. In December 2016, Germany and other countries intend to discuss all necessary details of the projects.
