PPO是衡量26日和9日指数移动平均差异的动量技术指标。该指标的实际应用和效果与平滑异同移动平均(MACD)类似。
PPO = (EMA(12) – EMA(26) / EMA(26)) x 100
PPO与MACD之间的主要不同在于概念，MACD衡量两种移动平均之间的绝对差异。而PPO计算百分比表示的相对差异。
如果快速移动平均(红线)高于慢速移动平均(蓝线)，则上升趋势主导市场。如果快速移动平均低于慢速移动平均，则下跌趋势主导市场。两种移动平均相交，即为市场进入交叉方向的交点。
该指标一个需要考虑的特点是信号线与零水平线的交叉。如果相交由下自上，则观察到稳定的趋势，随之应开始买入或继续持有。如果信号移动平均由上向下穿过零线，应按下跌趋势交易。
和MACD一样，PPO指出价格变动与指标的汇聚背离情况。如果观察到背离，指标建议价格即将回调。另一方面，如果观察到汇聚伴随着价格下跌，则为指标建议价格向上翻转即将来临。
